Following the update to iOS 27, iPhone users report a freezing interface, rapidly draining batteries, and reboots. Apple has already resolved initial bugs with iOS 27.0.1.

Apple released iOS 27 on September 14 for iPhones from the iPhone 11 onwards and the second-generation iPhone SE. Since then, users on Reddit, X, and Apple Support forums have reported bugs following the update. Both the new iPhone 18 Pro models and older devices are affected. How many users are experiencing the issues is unclear. Apple has not yet commented on the matter.

User Interface Unresponsive

Several users report that their devices respond more slowly after the update or that the screen temporarily stops responding to touch input. “Editing widgets on the home screen crashes the entire user interface; only a restart fixes it,” wrote a Reddit user with an iPhone 13 Pro. An owner of an iPhone 17 Pro Max observed stuttering animations and dropping frame rates in apps like Reddit, WhatsApp, and Wallet, especially when swiping and switching between views. According to TechRadar, affected users report that having fewer apps on the home screen mitigates the issue.

Battery Drains Faster

Further reports concern the battery. A user of an iPhone 15 Pro Max noted higher power consumption after the update. An owner of an iPhone Air reported increased battery drain overnight, even though Airplane Mode and Low Power Mode were active. Another user reported that their iPhone Air has been heating up since the update.

Reboots on the iPhone 18

Owners of the iPhone 18 had previously reported that their devices were randomly restarting, particularly when using Face ID. Some stated that Apple had replaced their device. Apple subsequently announced a software update. According to the release notes for iOS 27.0.1, the cause was a bug that caused devices to reboot when Face ID authentication failed. Whether the new under-display infrared camera — featured for the first time — also plays a role remains open.

iOS 27.0.1 Released

On September 28, Apple released iOS 27.0.1 for all iOS 27-capable iPhones. In addition to the Face ID bug, the update fixes color artifacts in 2x photos on some iPhone 18 Pro models, as well as a bug where the touchscreen became unresponsive when the Notification Center and Control Center were opened simultaneously. Whether the update also addresses reports of high battery consumption and stuttering animations is unclear. For Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4, watchOS 27.0.1 is available, fixing unexpected reboots on these models. According to Cybernews, iOS 27.1 is set to be released on October 23 alongside the foldable iPhone Duo.
