OpenAI is reportedly developing a new code-hosting platform that could directly rival Microsoft’s developer platform GitHub
That is according to insider publication The Information. The magazine cites repeated service outages at GitHub over recent months that left OpenAI engineers unable to work and ultimately prompted the company to build its own solution.

The project is still in its early stages and is unlikely to be completed for several months. According to The Information, employees working on it are already discussing whether to make the code repository available for purchase to OpenAI’s own customer base.
Should OpenAI actually bring the product to market, it would mark an unusually direct move against Microsoft, which holds a significant stake in OpenAI and acquired GitHub in 2018. GitHub is a web-based platform where developers can store, manage and collaboratively edit their source code. It is built on the version control system Git and allows teams to track changes to code, work on different versions in parallel and incorporate contributions from other developers.
