OpenAI is rolling out a major update to GPT-5.5 Instant, designed to deliver more natural responses, while also introducing a built-in job search feature and phasing out older models, including GPT-4.5.

The U.S.-based AI developer is refining the voice and response behavior of GPT-5.5 Instant, its current flagship instant-response model. Originally released on April 23, 2026, and continuously adjusted throughout May, the system is now receiving a substantial quality update aimed at improving stylistic precision. The changes focus on generating shorter responses and significantly reducing the model’s reliance on heavily list-based formats.

By limiting lengthy bullet-point outputs, OpenAI hopes to make interactions feel more natural and conversational. The update is intended to improve readability while enhancing the model’s effectiveness in handling practical, day-to-day assistance tasks over the coming weeks.

Older Models Retired to Free Up Compute Resources

Alongside improvements to its latest software, OpenAI is preparing to phase out several older model generations. The move is intended to free up valuable compute capacity in the company’s data centers and allocate more infrastructure resources to its newest and most advanced systems.

The o3 model will be removed from the ChatGPT interface on August 26, 2026, following a 90-day transition period.

GPT-4.5, meanwhile, will be fully retired on June 27, 2026, after a shorter 30-day transition window. Both models were available exclusively to subscribers of ChatGPT Plus and ChatGPT Pro.

While the retirement of o3 is generally viewed as manageable within the developer community, many users are disappointed to see GPT-4.5 disappear. Closely related to GPT-4o from a technical perspective, GPT-4.5 was widely praised by users for offering a more personalized conversational experience. Those same characteristics also made it a subject of debate among AI experts and industry observers.

Live Job Search and Enhanced Resume Tools in GPT-5.5 Instant

As part of the update, OpenAI is adding a new job search capability directly to the ChatGPT platform.

Until now, users primarily relied on ChatGPT to draft and refine resumes, cover letters, and application materials. However, the platform lacked the ability to retrieve current job openings in real time. The new search functionality changes that by allowing users to discover open positions and tailor their application documents to specific roles.

In its official release notes, OpenAI states:

“If you’re looking for jobs, ChatGPT can surface live listings and freelance opportunities from sources like Indeed, Upwork, Appcast, and across the web.”

According to OpenAI, search results will be automatically personalized based on information stored in a user’s profile, including qualifications, skills, and career goals. Relevant listings will include direct links to the original source websites where applications can be completed.

In parallel, OpenAI has updated its resume management tools, improving editing, organization, and professional export capabilities. The company says the global rollout of these features will take place gradually.
