US security provider Brinks Home has fallen victim to a cyberattack. According to the company, unknown attackers gained access to parts of its internal IT systems.
Based in Dallas, Texas, Brinks Home provides home security systems connected to a central alarm monitoring service. The company said the incident did not affect alarm monitoring or the core functionality of its security systems. The attackers reportedly did not gain access to any of the company’s products or services.
Brinks Home said it expects the stolen information could eventually be made public. The company is currently investigating exactly what data was affected and which individuals need to be notified. Customers whose personal information may have been compromised will be contacted. Brinks Home is also warning customers not to respond to unexpected emails, text messages, or phone calls requesting personal information or login credentials.
ShinyHunters Claims Access to Salesforce Data
Brinks Home has not disclosed the identity of the attackers. However, the company’s announcement came around the same time as a listing for Brinks Home appeared on ShinyHunters’ leak site on the Tor network. The group claims to have copied nearly 4.9 million records from a Salesforce environment operated by the company.
Apparently, no ransom was paid, prompting the attackers to subsequently make the stolen files freely available online. According to ShinyHunters, the records allegedly include personal information. These claims come solely from the extortion group and have not yet been independently verified.
