Anthropic is preparing a mobile extension for its desktop-focused AI agent, Claude Cowork. The upcoming feature would allow users to initiate and manage long-running AI tasks on their PC directly from a smartphone.
Anthropic is expanding its Claude ecosystem with mobile support for Claude Cowork, an agent mode designed for general knowledge work on desktop systems. Unlike Claude Code, which is optimized for software development tasks, Claude Cowork is built to handle broader, more complex workflows that can run for extended periods. The system can work with files, create documents, generate spreadsheets, and produce structured reports.
Until now, Claude Cowork has primarily been available through desktop applications on macOS and Windows. Recent screenshots shared on X suggest that mobile integration is now in testing, indicating a shift toward cross-device accessibility.
Mobile as a Remote Control Layer for Desktop AI
Early UI elements from the test version indicate that the mobile app will not take over processing tasks. Instead, the smartphone acts as a remote control interface for the desktop environment. Users would be able to start and manage tasks directly from their phone, with the option to connect through different entry points such as a browser or desktop app.
A key feature highlighted in the early materials is continuity: tasks continue running in the background even if the mobile app is closed.
Compute Stays on the Local Machine
Because Claude Cowork runs directly on the user’s local computer, the system retains access to locally stored files that the user has explicitly granted permission to use. The mobile experience is designed primarily for monitoring progress and controlling workflows while away from the desk, while all compute-heavy operations remain on the PC.
Anthropic has not yet made an official announcement confirming full mobile support. However, the current UI leaks and in-app preparations strongly suggest that a public rollout may not be far off.
