According to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), an Amazon data center in Bahrain was destroyed by multiple cruise missiles.
The claim comes from a Telegram post by state-affiliated news agency Fars, which is widely regarded as a mouthpiece for the IRGC. There has been no independent confirmation from Amazon, Bahraini authorities, or Western media outlets so far.
Second Incident of Its Kind
If the reports are confirmed, this would not be the first time Amazon’s cloud infrastructure in the Gulf region has come under attack. In March, AWS data centers in the United Arab Emirates were reportedly damaged in drone strikes, temporarily disrupting apps and online services. A facility in Bahrain was also reportedly affected at the time. In April, the IRGC allegedly threatened further attacks against other US technology companies with operations in the Middle East, including Nvidia, Apple, Microsoft, and Google.
Background: Renewed Escalation in the Middle East
The reported attack comes amid a sharp escalation in tensions between the United States and Iran. US President Donald Trump declared an existing ceasefire over. Since then, US Central Command has carried out airstrikes against Iranian targets for ten consecutive nights. Washington says the strikes are intended to weaken Iran’s capabilities to target commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has also been linked to the deaths of several US service members killed in attacks on US military bases in the region.
