Microsoft is making memory requirements for Windows 11 a key focus of its ongoing development efforts. The company’s plans were outlined by Windows chief Pavan Davuluri in a post on X, where he highlighted the priorities Microsoft is targeting for the coming months.
One of the main goals is to reduce Windows 11’s memory footprint so the operating system remains fast and responsive even on devices with only 8 GB of RAM. The move is likely also influenced by the attention surrounding Apple’s MacBook Neo, which has gained significant visibility this year. While Windows PC manufacturers have responded with more affordable hardware options, Windows itself is still considered relatively resource intensive when running with limited memory. Microsoft has not yet revealed specific technical details about how it plans to achieve these improvements.
Three More Areas of Focus
In addition to memory optimization, Microsoft identified three other areas it plans to improve by the end of the year:
- A faster and more streamlined setup process for new devices.
- Simplified parental controls as part of its Family Safety features.
- More natural voice interactions with apps, supporting Microsoft’s vision of a more multimodal, AI-powered Windows experience.
Continuation of an Initiative Started in March
According to Davuluri, these efforts continue an initiative Microsoft launched in March to address key areas of criticism surrounding Windows 11. He emphasized that the company will build on previous findings and continue incorporating user feedback. According to Microsoft, the message from users has been clear: the improvements should continue.
Microsoft has not provided a detailed timeline for the individual measures. However, the report notes that Windows 11 has already seen noticeable improvements compared with the previous year, with further updates expected throughout the year.
