The graphics card’s price has doubled since launch, reaching the same level as the RTX 5090’s original MSRP.
Prices for Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 5080 graphics card have climbed to around $2,000 in the US. That’s roughly twice its original MSRP of $999, when Nvidia launched the card in January 2025. The current price is also on par with the original list price of the flagship RTX 5090. According to a price snapshot published by VideoCardz on October 28, the lowest available offers from major retailers were $1,979.99 for in-store pickup and $1,999.99 for online orders. These figures represent a snapshot in time, as prices change daily.
RTX 5080 Prices Surge by $800 in Two Months
According to Tom’s Hardware, the cheapest RTX 5080 available from a reputable retailer on October 29 was a PNY model listed at Best Buy for $1,999. Stock is limited, and many listings come from third-party sellers. In some cases, lower-tier models cost more than higher-end versions. At Micro Center, for example, the Asus ROG RTX 5080 Astral OC was priced at $2,079.99, while the Asus RTX 5080 Prime OC cost $2,349.99.
“In two months the going price for a RTX 5080 went from around $1200 to $2200 (if not more with certain parts).”

RTX 5090 Shortages Shift Demand to the RTX 5080
Nvidia has not explained the price increases. Potential factors include a shortage of GDDR7 graphics memory and the prioritization of manufacturing capacity for AI data centers. The RTX 5090 is also virtually unavailable at major US retailers. Third-party sellers on Amazon have recently listed the card for around $8,500. As a result, many buyers are turning to the RTX 5080 instead.
In mid-October, Nvidia reportedly rejected claims of a production halt for the RTX 5090, following reports in Taiwanese media. However, the company acknowledged supply chain constraints. There is currently no indication of when prices or availability might improve.
