The world’s largest memory manufacturers have reportedly allocated their entire DRAM and HBM production capacity for 2027, leaving little to no additional supply available for new customers.

According to Taiwanese industry publication DigiTimes, Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron have already committed all of their DRAM and high-bandwidth memory (HBM) production capacity for 2027. The report cites unnamed industry sources but does not identify the companies that have secured the allocations. As things stand, no meaningful remaining capacity is reportedly available for additional buyers.

The primary driver is surging demand from AI workloads and hyperscale data centers. According to DigiTimes, several analysts believe the global memory market could face its tightest supply conditions ever in 2027. With demand continuing to outpace production, memory vendors are increasingly locking customers into long-term supply agreements lasting up to five years.

Because annual memory supply negotiations for the following year traditionally take place in July and August, DigiTimes reports that it is already becoming clear many companies will not receive the volumes they were expecting for 2027. Several major AI companies and hyperscale cloud providers are reportedly competing aggressively for additional HBM supply, even at significantly higher prices. The report does not specify which companies are involved.

PCs, Laptops, and Smartphones Also Expected to Feel the Impact

The expected supply crunch is not limited to AI infrastructure. DigiTimes also predicts significantly tighter DRAM availability for PCs, laptops, and smartphones in 2027 compared with 2026.

Beyond DRAM and HBM, the NAND flash market is also coming under increasing pressure, although to a lesser extent so far. While NAND production capacity for 2027 is reportedly still available, DigiTimes warns that it could be fully allocated by the end of August 2026.
