Microsoft Bug: Teams and Outlook Crash on ARM PCs

Following the August updates, Teams and the new Outlook fail to function on Copilot+ PCs. Paradoxically, an AI graphics package is supposed to provide first aid.

After installing Windows security updates released on or after August 11, 2026 (KB5121003), Microsoft Teams and the new Outlook for Windows often fail to launch or close unexpectedly on ARM-based devices. Affected exclusively are Copilot+ PCs with ARM architecture—such as the Surface Laptop 7 or the Surface Pro 11—running Windows 11 version 24H2 or later. Classic Office applications (Word, Excel, classic Outlook) remain fully functional.

Workaround for Microsoft Teams and series of flaws in August updates

• Cause & Remedy: The error primarily occurs on new or freshly set up devices that have not yet installed any Microsoft Store updates. As a workaround, Microsoft advises manually updating the “Auto Super Resolution Package” via the Microsoft Store to version 1.0.19.0 or higher—an AI component that is actually responsible for graphics upscaling in games.
• Planned fix: Microsoft is working on a permanent patch to be rolled out with an upcoming Windows update
• Accumulation of problems: The issue joins a string of mishaps in the August patches. Previously, .NET Framework updates caused printing errors and PDF export problems, RGB keyboard drivers led to system crashes, and Microsoft Defender issued false shutoff warnings.
