Chinese robotics maker Unitree has unveiled a new humanoid robot designed for high speed movement. The company has named the robot “Superman.”
According to its own sales figures, Unitree is currently the world’s largest manufacturer of humanoid robots. Last week, the company raised around $905 million in its initial public offering. The retail offering was more than 8,000 times oversubscribed, setting a record for the technology focused STAR Market in Shanghai. Trading in Unitree shares is scheduled to begin Wednesday.
The Hangzhou based company said it had produced and delivered around 18,000 bipedal humanoid robots across several models as of July.
Unitree says it developed Superman in just over three months. The robot can reportedly perform a 2 meter standing long jump and reach a top speed of 12.66 meters per second, equivalent to roughly 45.6 kilometers per hour or 28.3 miles per hour. At the same time, the company stressed that the robot is still under development and will continue to be improved over the coming months.
IPO Debut Coincides With World Robot Conference
Unitree’s Shanghai stock market debut coincides with the opening of the World Robot Conference in Beijing, potentially giving the company additional exposure among investors. Unitree founder Wang Xingxing gained nationwide attention last year after being invited to a summit for leading technology entrepreneurs hosted by Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The startup’s investors include some of China’s most influential technology companies, including Tencent, Alibaba and DeepSeek. Pre market trading in derivatives tied to Unitree shares had already pointed to a strong debut. The company is also benefiting from a broader recovery in Chinese technology stocks. The STAR50 Index has recently rebounded by around 15 percent from a three month low reached in early August.
