SpaceX officially retired the xAI brand on Monday, months after acquiring the AI company in February. The business now operates under the SpaceXAI name, complete with a new logo and a new account on X.

Anyone following xAI in recent months will now find a different brand. The company’s X account has been renamed @SpaceXAI, accompanied by a transition video showing the familiar xAI wordmark transforming into the new SpaceXAI logo. The updated branding closely mirrors SpaceX’s established visual identity.

Acquisition Had Been Planned for Months

The move comes as little surprise. SpaceX assumed control of xAI in February through a stock swap that also included the social platform X. As a result, the company’s space operations, AI development, and social media assets are now consolidated under a single corporate umbrella. In May, Elon Musk had already confirmed that xAI would cease to exist as a standalone company. Instead, all AI products would be brought together under the SpaceXAI brand.

IPO Put AI Business Center Stage

The rebranding follows SpaceX’s June initial public offering. With an offering size of $75 billion and a valuation of approximately $1.77 trillion, it is considered the largest IPO ever completed. The surge in valuation briefly made Musk the world’s first person believed to have reached trillionaire status.

Documents released as part of the IPO also revealed how heavily the company is investing in artificial intelligence. In 2025, SpaceX allocated $12.7 billion to AI — more than three times the amount invested in its spaceflight and satellite communications business, including Starlink. While the AI division has yet to turn a profit, the company describes it as its most significant long-term growth opportunity. SpaceX says it is targeting what it calls the largest addressable market in history.

AI Data Centers in Space

Among the company’s long-term initiatives are AI-powered computing satellites. According to SpaceX, these systems are expected to enable data centers to operate directly in orbit beginning in 2028.

SpaceX also highlighted existing infrastructure partnerships in its IPO disclosures. According to the company, Anthropic pays $1.25 billion per month for access to computing capacity at SpaceX’s Colossus data centers, while Google pays $920 million per month.
